List of resources that helped me personally for abusive relationships or relationships with narcissistic abusers

nothousehunting:

These are sources I have personally found extremely helpful in recovering from and processing abuse. If you have any other resources you think I should add please send them my way – I’ll keep updating this list. These articles focus on emotional and psychological abuse because that is what I have experienced.

Read this article first. This article, hands down, changed my life more than any other source listed here. I still cannot read it without crying or throwing up but I try to read it multiple times a day.

This video explains why we reenter abusive relationships.

This video gives you a simple test to find out if someone is a narcissitic abuser. There are so many good quotes in this video that speak to me so strongly. If you feel crazy because of the way you are treated, watch this.

This entire channel is just good honestly.

This is another article written by Katie Boland, the woman who wrote the first article I linked. I will read literally everything and anything she puts out. This is how I found out about Codependents Anonymous and began my journey to recovery.

This is the website for Codependents Anonymous. You can find a meeting or resources here. I posted this list of symptoms for codependency on this blog before and it seemed to resonate with a lot of you. I have seen more progress, growth, and recovery from abuse in the month I’ve been going to CoDA than I have from……18 years of therapy. Not kidding. Go to a meeting. I truly believe all abuse is the abuser’s fault, but the reason people who are abused continue to enter and stay in abusive relationships is codependency, particularly putting someone else’s needs before your own. If you can break this then you can be free from abuse.

This is a link to an abusive relationship chatline/hotline. There have been weeks where i’ve chatted with a representative three times a day. They will hear you out and validate you and support you and provide you with local free/cheap resources. They are great.
